Patricia McCloskeys: St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner contemplates whether a pair of married attorneys breached any laws on Sunday when they attacked non-violent demonstrators who marched past the couple’s Central West End home on their way to protest at Mayor Lyda Krewson’s nearby building.
In several videos, including one that by Monday morning had more than 13 million views, Mark and Patricia McCloskey are seen shooting at the protestors with their weapons. It is seen that Mark McCloskey carries an assault-style rifle, while Patricia is shown carrying a semiautomatic pistol. It’s unknown if any of the weapons are loaded.
Patricia McCloskeys: Gardner issued a statement late Monday morning saying that she was “alarmed at the events that took place over the weekend, where weapons and a violent assault confronted peaceful protesters.” She added that her office is “currently working with the public and police to investigate those events.”
Gardner concluded her argument with the following words: “Do not make any mistake: we do not allow the use of force against those exercising their First Amendment rights, and will use the full power of Missouri law to hold people to account.”
On Sunday, the protestors went to Krewson’s house to demand the resignation of the first-term mayor for publishing the names and addresses of people who had called for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to be defunded.
