As Spotify is moving full sprint ahead into unique and original podcast series as a way to further distinguish itself from competitive services such as Apple Music, you had to believe that finally something like this would come to reality. The Swedish-based music streamer began sending out polls asking individuals for their opinions on a potential Spotify premium podcast-focused subscription service, whereby you can pay a monthly fee to reach the original podcast material of the streamer – Spotify subscription.
One of those individuals who received the survey via the Spotify app and forwarded it out to his associates was Andrew Wallenstein, the president of Variety’s Intelligence Platform. Essentially, in this survey, which demands input, many different possible podcast subscription levels are proposed. Prices are projected to range from $3 to $8 a month.
At least for now, Spotify subscription cautions not to misinterpret this as confirmation that such an offering is formally in the pipeline. Therefore, a Spotify spokesperson unfolded, “At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of surveys in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”
It is definitely important to see what the streamer appears to be at least contemplating here, as the survey indicates, for instance, the cheapest option, featuring advertising, but also “access to exclusive interviews and episodes.” At the top end, in addition to “high-quality original content” and no Spotify-inserted ads, the most costly plan will include instant access to specific podcast episodes. Most importantly, it must be emphasized that the monthly charge you will pay for this podcast service would be entirely different from and would not require a Spotify Premium subscription, as designed and proposed in this survey.
