Following the death of his son James at the age of 58, Hollywood star Robert Redford is “in mourning” Activist and filmmaker James Redford died on Friday, his wife Kyle reported via Twitter, after being diagnosed with liver cancer. The publicist of his famous father, Cindi Berger, said: “The grief is immeasurable with the loss of a child.”
The retired actor and producer, 84, has appeared in films such as Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid.
Jamie [James] was a caring son, husband and father, “Berger added, who” during this difficult period, “pleaded for privacy for the Redford family.”
“Through his children, art, filmmaking and devoted passion for conservation and the environment, his legacy lives on.”
‘A lovely, impactful life’
Documentary films were made by Redford ‘s son James, including The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia.
At this month’s Mill Valley Film Festival in California, his new film Playing Keeps, which examined the meaning of play and downtime in our lives, was given a virtual premiere online.
His 32-year-old wife, Kyle, shared online the news of his death, along with pictures of the couple and their two children.
She wrote, “We’re heartbroken. He lived a wonderful, impactful life and was loved by everyone.”
She told the Salt Lake Tribune that while undergoing a liver transplant, James had learned the cancer diagnosis late last year.
Two years earlier, she said, his liver disease had returned.
Actor and producer Mark Ruffalo, paying homage, wrote: “Damn. It’s cut deep this year. Another wonderful, sweet, kind guy leaves us.”
The late filmmaker was described by another Hollywood star, Kiefer Sutherland, as ‘a wonderful writer and a wonderful man.’
Fellow filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom tweeted that she was “heartbroken when I heard about the death of my friend Jamie.”
“He was an incredible filmmaker and a beautiful guy, and when I started as a filmmaker, I will forever be thankful to him for his mentorship.”
Robert Redford has three other kids, including Amy Redford, the actress.
