With the Haunting of Verdansk, a Halloween themed in-game event, Call of Duty is celebrating the spooky season. “The event, which modifies the Modern Warfare multiplayer of 2019 and the famous Warzone battle royale version of CoD, allows fans to play as two classic horror movie villains, as well as giving them new weapons, new modes and a reward system for” Trick or Treat. Everything you need to know here is here.
What’s the Verdansk Haunting?
In a lengthy blog post outlining the many changes coming with the Haunting of Verdansk, Activision set the stage for the upcoming Halloween themed update.
As Halloween approaches, for what seems to be a regular intrusion into Verdansk, a squad of operators drops in, “they add,” although there has been back-channel talk about some mysterious and unusual events around the remote areas of the map.
The operators have been briefed on news of a serial killer wearing the mask of his victim on his own.
“Scattered information is available about unusual noises coming from different areas in the war zone; and not least the piercing, eerie laughter of a ventriloquist doll …”
How do I play the Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre characters?
Perhaps most excitingly, the Haunting of Verdansk will allow you to play two classic horror film villains: the Saw franchise’s Billy the Puppet and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface.
You’ll need to buy either the Saw or Texas Chainsaw Massacre bundles to unlock these skins.
As well as two Saw-themed blueprint weapons, a Freight Truck skin, tricycle Charm, and four other pieces of personalization material, the Saw package also comes with the Phlebotomozier Lethal Equipment item, a special throwing knife that will “drill into your enemies upon impact”.
The Family Heirloom LMG blueprint includes the Leatherface bundle, complete with a special stock attachment that enables an operator to use the weapon like a chainsaw.
Also included in the kit is Anyone Home? As well as an SMG blueprint knife, a vehicle horn, and five additional Texas Chainsaw Massacre-themed pieces, the melee blueprint that makes this Secondary into a one-handed hammer.
On the map, what has changed?
In Warzone, for the Haunting of Verdansk, the battle royale map is undergoing a big change. Players can now play a night version of the spot.
Accessible in select modes, Activision says that operators “will want to pack some thermal optics in their Loadout Drops” to help detect enemies, and that visiting Verdansk at night will leave players “open to a few scares.”
Some claim that a ventriloquist doll regularly appears on TV sets tuned to defunct networks, and it is possible to see and hear the poltergeist of a chainsaw-wielding murderer around the farmland of Krovnik.
“Others say that a ghost train, a vessel loaded with the souls of those who lost their lives fighting in the Gulag, still uses the defunct tracks near the train station …”
How does the incentive scheme of Trick or Treat operate?
If you’re playing the day or night version of the map, all players can participate in the Trick or Treat Halloween case, an in-game scavenger hunt.
In particular locations, you will find specially numbered Trick or Treat Supply Boxes; open these boxes for an opportunity to earn universal prizes, like the blueprint of the Awesome Return to Dust Assault Weapon, the Cleaver Legendary Melee blueprint, a holographic watch, charms, stickers, sprays, calling cards, and emblems.
But true to the name of the case, opening a package won’t always provide a treat. They may have a brief scare as well, so open them at your own risk! Activision says. Tell.
The Pumpkin Punisher Legendary Assault Rifle blueprint, which comes pre-configured with attachments that make the weapon “downright scary” in Warzone, will be unlocked by collecting all 16 individual rewards.
Zombie Royale, what’s it?
Zombie Royal is a new limited-time game mode in which operators battle against and alongside powerful zombified creatures in which death is ‘far from permanent’.
Dead Operators can come back to life as a zombie with supernatural powers instead of being sent to the Gulag: accelerated agility, enhanced leaps, deadlier melee attacks, and thermal vision.
They drop a syringe that shows up on the map when a player is killed. Collect two of these syringes as a Zombie, and for a second chance, you can parachute back in with your loadout on your team.
And if the rest of the squad has turned undead, the last squad standing with a surviving operator wins.
When can I play it?
On Tuesday 20 October, the Haunting of Verdansk event goes online. It is anticipated that the update will go live in the UK about 6 pm.
It runs for two weeks and will close on Tuesday , November 3rd.
