In a new State of Play demonstration on Thursday, Sony and Insomniac Games premiered 16 minutes of amazing new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay clip.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart traversed through a new town named Nefarious City for part of the video, which was filled with detail and reminding me of a Ratchet & Clank version of Star Wars’ Coruscant. With 3D platforming and crates to break for screws, there was a lot of classic Ratchet & Clank gameplay on show, but the designers also introduced new steps to give you more versatility. There’s now dashing and wall running, for instance, and you can use the latest Rift Tether to connect to portals and zip from one location to the next.
Rivet, a new Lombax resistance fighter who lives in a different dimension than Ratchet and Clank, was featured in another segment of the film. Jennifer Hale, who has appeared in films such as Mass Effect, Halo, Overwatch, and others, provides her voice.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, like Returnal, will use the DualSense’s adaptive triggers to give your weapons different acts depending on how far you pull the trigger. Sony also demonstrated some new weapons, such as the Shatterbomb, which fired grenade-like explosives at approaching enemies. The game looks fantastic, and we won’t have to wait long to get our hands on it: Rift Apart will be released on June 11th.
