It is no secret: Michael Jordan is largely recognized as one of the biggest athletes ever to have lived. Jordan won six titles with the Chicago Bulls over the course of his legendary career, and one of those winning seasons is the subject of ESPN documentary The Last Dance.
A ten-part docuseries hitting Netflix on July 19, the documentary is about the historic season of the Bulls 1997-8. This is a series that lays bare why Jordan is a huge star, and fans ask, precisely what Michael Jordan is worth?
The all-star player actually lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, with his wife Yvette Prieto and their twin daughters, Victoria and Ysabel, and let us just say they are super happy – and I mean super. Forbes predicts that $2.1 billion worth of Jordan makes him the first-ever billion-dollar athlete.
In reality, he has making more post-career than he ever did while playing in the NBA, believe it or not: during his professional career he making $90 million—$63 million of which came from the Bulls in those last two seasons, per Business Insider — but he received another $1.7 billion, before taxes, from corporate partners off court.
Notable for his shoe contract with Nike, despite not being an active player, Jordan also has endorsement arrangements with Hanes, Gatorade and Upper Deck. And I should not fail to note that, in September 2019, he sold a minority interest in the Charlotte Hornets valuing the team at $1.5 billion. Which one is nuts. Especially since, according to Forbes, he bought a majority stake in the company back in 2010 for $175 million.
