The management dismantled the roster shortly after the Chicago Bulls completed their second 3-peat in 1998. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman, who formed the core of the side, had to leave as one of the most feared teams ever, after the front office wanted a rebuild.

MJ left the NBA which was seen coming by everyone. As Rodman joined the Lakers, the Houston Rockets were given his much-favored trade to Scottie Pippen.
Pippen was not enjoying much success with the Rockets and just stayed there for a year. The Rockets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs, even with the formidable combination of Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon and Scottie Pippen.

The Lakers built up to become one of the best teams in the history of the NBA. The Lakers team from 1998-99 brought out the glory that followed the franchise for the next three years. Though they were humbled by the Spurs in the semi-finals of the 1999 conference, the team bounced back the very following year.

Returning to Pippen, rumours were swirling around that, after the 99′ season, Scottie wanted the Rockets to trade him to the Lakers. None of that happened, though it looks good to be true.

Lakers legend reveals the reason for never bringing Scottie Pippen into the team

There are at least ten names that would pop into your mind when you use the word “Lakers legend” To be exact, the Jerry West we are talking about. He was one of the members on the side when the Lakers moved to Los Angeles from Minneapolis before season 1960-61. Inside and out, he was a Laker. Besides his loyal 14-year career playing with the team, in the 80’s West moved into an executive position and guided the Lakers to massive success.

When West became the Lakers’ general manager in the 1990s, there was one theory that always flew past him. Signing to marry Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal Scottie Pippen This is a story many fans have never had to come across. However, when West told The Athletic’s Bill Oram and Jason Quick that none of that was real, he made his thoughts clear.

“There wasn’t one conversation in my mind about him,” West revealed. “I’ve always admired Scottie Pippen as a player. But listen, we did fine. OK? We did fine.” The 82-year-old seemed to assert that they did just fine without Pippen on their team. But to be honest, they were more than fine. In fact, they were spectacular.

The three-peat Lakers are the only team in the NBA to complete a treble. And just a year after the Bulls made history they started the works for it. One can only imagine what a beautiful side it would have been with only a hypothetical thought of Pippen joining the team.
