Host Chuck Woolery ‘s talk and game show caused controversy over a tweet in which he says Democrats, doctors, and others are lying about COVID-19—but President Donald Trump agrees.
Wheel of Fortune fame’s television personality has caused uproar on social media for his opinions on the pandemic, which contradicts CDC beliefs.
The 79-year-old took to Monday’s social media site to denounce what he terms “outrageous propaganda” in a tweet that the President has retweeted.
“The most outrageous lies are the ones about Covid 19. Everyone is lying,” he said. “The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most, that we are told to trust. I think it’s all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I’m sick of it.”
Currently the U.S. has 3,304,942 recorded coronavirus cases as Florida registered more than 15,000 new cases in what is now a state daily high.
Woolery also tweeted in support of reopening schools later this year, posting: “There is so much proof, yes scientific evidence, that schools will open this fall.
In agreement with Woolery ‘s position on why schools should reopen, Trump also retweeted this one.
Under the current guidelines, the CDC recommends that schools enforce social distancing rules which are not possible in a school setting, some have said. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said schools would reopen this week on a case-by – case basis, to deal with virus flare-ups.
DeVos said to CNN: “Children need to be in school. They need to learn, they need to move forward. And we can not be paralyzed.” She added: “Where there are little flare-ups or hotspots that can be handled on a school-by-school basis or on a case-by – case basis.
Woolery ‘s comments have angered many Twitter users who feel they should adhere to the CDC ‘s advice.
One Twitter user tweeted: “Hey Chuck, my dad and I used to watch your shows together. My dad was a lifelong Republican. He died of COVID-19 a couple of months ago and I’m pretty sure that it didn’t have anything to do with the election.
While another added: “Imagine people listening to < checks notes > Chuck Woolery as an expert authority who can speak something at all on < checks notes >.”
The talk show host, however, also has many people who agree with his stance, including the US president.
Woolery added: “These slimy bureaucrats smell like a north-bound mule’s southern end.”
And: “Get this, teachers’ unions in California say, “If you’re not defunding the police we’re not going to teach? Actually? Give us what we want or we’re going to burn down the government. Where have I heard that before? Yeah, Black Lives Matter leader in New York, that’s where.”
