In 2022, a new year promises a plethora of exciting sports to look forward to. Early in 2022, the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics will be held in Beijing, while the Commonwealth Games will be staged in Birmingham in the summer. In July, the Women’s Euro 2022 will be held in England, and the men’s World Cup will be held in Qatar in November and December. In England, the Rugby League World Cup begins in October, and men’s and women’s Cricket World Cups are also held. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic still wreaking havoc throughout the world, it’s unclear whether all of the events will go off without a hitch and whether venues will be full to capacity. So without more ado, let’s have a look at the forthcoming sports events 2022!
5 Feb-19 March – Rugby Union – Six Nations
The United Kingdom will send a squad of roughly 50 athletes to China in the hopes of bettering their five medals from Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018. They will become the most successful British Winter Olympic team in history if they succeed.
4-13 March – Winter Paralympics, Beijing
In 2021, Wales won the title after Scotland downed France in a thrilling match in Paris. England finished seventh last year, but is coming off a win over global champions South Africa in this year’s tournament. France, led by global player of the year Antoine Dupont, appear to be the favourites, but Ireland is also in strong shape.
4 March-3 April – Cricket – Women’s ODI World Cup, New Zealand
England will attempt to defend the championship they won at Lord’s in 2017, which was postponed a year due to the Covid epidemic, although Australia will start as favorites.
24 March – Football – World Cup European qualification semi-finals: Wales v Austria, Scotland v Ukraine
If both Scotland and Wales win their matches, they will face off in Cardiff on March 29 for a spot in Qatar. Wales is attempting to qualify for the World Cup, one of the most anticipated sports events 2022, for the first time in 64 years, while Scotland last competed in 1998. Because of the play-off draw, neither Italy nor Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal will be able to compete in the World Cup.

Leicester are the current champions courtesy to a memorable victory over Chelsea in May, which was sealed by Youri Tielemans’ amazing goal.
15 May – Football – Women’s FA Cup final, Wembley
Last season’s final was postponed until December, when Chelsea stunned Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley to achieve a belated domestic treble.
21 May – Football – Scottish Cup final, Hampden
By defeating Hibernian 1-0 in last year’s final, St Johnstone completed a historic cup double.
28 May – Football – Champions League final, St Petersburg
Last year’s final was won by Chelsea, who defeated Manchester City, and both teams are still in contention this year. Liverpool and Manchester United have both advanced to the last 16 of the competition.
2 June to 12 September – Cricket – England men host New Zealand, India and South Africa
The last Test against India, which was postponed from 2021 due to a number of Covid cases in the tourists’ camp, is part of a jam-packed summer schedule. It’s among the long-awaited sports events 2022.
27 June-10 July – Tennis – Wimbledon
As per the projected sporting events 2022, Emma Raducanu, the US Open champion, will be the focus of attention, although Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, and Dan Evans, both from the United Kingdom, will be hoping for a solid run.
3 July – Formula 1 – British Grand Prix, Silverstone
Despite a first-lap collision with Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton won last year’s race, and the British driver’s fight with the Dutch world champion promises to be one of the great rivalries of 2022.
6-31 July – Football – Women’s Euro 2022, England
As per the sporting calendar 2022, Hosts England will attempt to surpass the men’s team by becoming European champions for the first time, while the Netherlands will attempt to retain their championship. For the first time, Northern Ireland has qualified for the Euros.
14-17 July – Golf – The Open, The Old Course, St Andrews
The 150th Open Championship will be held in the home of golf. The Claret Jug is currently held by Collin Morikawa, but all eyes will be on Tiger Woods, who hopes to play after nearly losing his right leg in a car accident last February.
15-24 July – Athletics – World Championships, Eugene, Oregon, United States
Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, both from the United Kingdom, will defend their global titles, while Olympic medalists Keely Hodgkinson, Laura Muir, and Holly Bradshaw will try to add to their medal tally.
28 July-8 August – Commonwealth Games, Birmingham
For the first time in Commonwealth Games history, there are more medal events for women than men, as well as a fully integrated para-sport programme. A women’s Twenty20 cricket event will be staged in addition to the traditional Commonwealth Games – one of the famous sports events 2022.
11-21 August – Olympic sports – European Championships, Munich
In athletics, beach volleyball, canoe sprint, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sport climbing, table tennis, and triathlon, Britain’s Olympic heroes will vie for medals.

15 Oct-19 Nov – Rugby League World Cup, England
As per the sporting calendar 2022, the competition, which has been postponed by a year, will comprise 61 games and separate tournaments for men, women, and wheelchair players.
17 Oct-14 Nov – Cricket – Men’s T20 World Cup, Australia
In November, Australia defeated New Zealand by eight wickets to win the Men’s T20 World Cup for the first time. After losing to the Black Caps in the semi-finals, England will be looking to improve.
21 Nov-18 Dec – Football – World Cup, Qatar
The Premier League is on hiatus until the end of the year, when the first World Cup – one of the famous sports events 2022 – to be contested in the Arab world kicks underway to escape Qatar’s scorching summer heat. England has already qualified, and Wales or Scotland may follow suit.
