How to transfer photos and videos from Facebook to Google Photos

The sky is falling, according to some Google Photos devotees right now; after years of providing free high-quality storage, Photos is now shutting off the tap. Isn’t this post about moving your photos to Photos rather than off of it? Yes, and with good cause – with more of us taking a serious look at how we archive our photographs as a result of this move, there are a lot of persuasive grounds to use Photos, even if it means paying for some storage. And if your old photos are stored on Facebook, you’ll have to delete them. Fortunately, there are some tools ready to assist you on the part of how to transfer your photos and videos from Facebook to Google Photos.

The Data Transfer Project, a cooperative venture by Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, and others, is behind Facebook photos to Google Photos tool. The Data Transfer Project, a tool offering Facebook access to Google Photos, promises enhanced data mobility between services. After making its debut in Ireland in December 2019, Facebook’s photo and video migration tool made its way to the US and Canada in April 2020.

In terms of capability, the tool is quite uncomplicated. Users may replicate their entire Facebook photo or video library to Google Photos in five simple steps, with no additional software or hacks required.

From your phone’s Facebook app, you can quickly access Facebook’s photo and video migration feature. Simply open the app, hit the hamburger menu in the upper right corner, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and select “Settings.”

Facebook needs users to enter their Facebook password to confirm they are the ones transferring photos and videos from Facebook to Google Photos. If you’ve lost or misplaced your Facebook password, you may start the recovery process by clicking the “Forgot Password?” option underneath the password box.

♦ Select a Destination

After that, you’ll need to decide on a location for your photos. At the moment, Google Photos is the only service that integrates with Facebook to Google Photos tool; however, other services will be announced soon.

You’ll have to decide whether to move your photographs or videos first. Bear in mind that they cannot be transferred at the same time; if you want to transfer all of your Facebook photos to Google Photos, you’ll have to repeat the process.

Finally, after clicking “Next,” you’ll be prompted to give Facebook permission to access your Google Photos account.

♦ Confirm Transfer

Finally, press “Confirm Transfer” to start the move. It will take some time for the service to transfer and upload your photographs to Google Photos, especially if you have a huge library.

After the procedure is complete, Google Photos will display a sequence of new albums, each beginning with “Copy of…” These will be identical to the titles of your Facebook photo albums.
