Here’s what we know about Den of Thieves 2. Den of Thieves almost tripled its budget at the box office in 2018 and became a classic modern heist. Director Christian Gudegast announced that a sequel was in production shortly after the film was released, but there has not been a lot of action on it since.

Den of Thieves was not a major critical success but it resonated with filmgoers. Set in the world’s bank robbery hub, Los Angeles, Gudegast’s heist movie has all of Heat’s bravado (another L.A .- based classic) and The Usual Suspects dramatic complexity. Gudegast made the movie as real as possible, using LAPD sources, the military, and a former Hell’s Angels leader.

Gerard Butler portrays O’Brien, a detective for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department, as Nicholas “Big Nick” After concentrating his attention on a local called Ray Merriman (Pablo Schreiber), he attempts to avoid a seemingly inevitable heist. A bartender named Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) is revealed to be the real masterminding a final act twist, which sets up the Den of Thieves 2 storyline in London.

Gudegast teased Den of Thieves 2 in an interview with Screen Rant by saying, “The hard work is done. It’s all structured, it’s all outlined, I have the whole story. It’s just a matter of putting pen to page.” Then in 2019 Den of Thieves 2 was formally renamed Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Here’s what we know about this awaited sequel.

Few information regarding a potential release date for Den of Thieves 2 have been announced; nevertheless, there have been reports that development began in 2019. Given that the original film has been in production for a full 14 years, it is likely that Gudegast and company will take their time, particularly because COVID-19 has caused so much change. If it is true that Den of Thieves 2 has already entered development, then it is likely that in summer 2021 it could release anytime, give or take a few months.

The Den of Thieves 2 will occur across Europe based on what Gudegast originally told Screen Rant. Big Nick must chase for the main plot after Donnie, who is now affiliated with the Pink Panther Mafia, an international network of jewel-thieves.

As revealed in the sequel, Donnie works near a diamond exchange as a London bartender. In the sequel, Gudegast announced that an unidentified person or entity will chase Big Nick away, resulting in a mashup off subplots that will extend the storyline across Europe.

We know from now on that Den of Thieves 2 was influenced directly by the films Gomorrah, Suburra, Sexy Beast and Ronin. Moreover, the sequel presumably will take place in London, Belgium, Marseilles, the Cote d’Azur, and Montenegro. Owing to the cast discussions and a slow production process, full details possibly have not been released. Yet for Den of Thieves 2, it does seem like all is in order, at least in terms of plot and structure.
