Comedian and radio talk show host Rickey Smiley ‘s daughter was shot several times in Houston, late Sunday night.
Smiley said his daughter Aaryn was injured sometime around midnight, via social media, while she was on her way to get food at Whataburger. “She was at a stop light and some guys were getting out of the car and shooting each other and hitting each other twice,” Smiley said in one of the videos he posted Monday. “My daughter did not deserve to be a victim of a shot but thank God for protecting her.”
Smiley announced on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show the shooting, saying she was shot at least twice, and possibly three times. “I’m just so furious right now,” Smiley said. “I have awakened to the text messages. She is screaming, she is scared … and I can’t get to her.
According to his boss, Smiley, who is from Birmingham, was able to board a flight to Houston later in the day. He posted at 3:30 p.m. that his daughter is out of surgery and recovering.
Repeated attempts to contact police officials in Houston for comment were unsuccessful, but they told ABC13 in Houston that the shooting was a result of an altercation. A black Infiniti was at a red light during the altercation when the suspect pulled up to it and opened fire.
Three people were taken to a hospital within the Infiniti for support. A bystander also suffered injuries. Whether Smiley ‘s daughter was the bystander or inside the Infiniti wasn’t immediately obvious.
