The situation only gets crazier from there. There is interpretative dance, to be sure. Yes, there are strange Russian flashbacks. Yes, it will have you scratching your head and looking for answers on the internet.

Because it’s an anthology, each episode covers a different narrative and place, so you may skip around if you like. Dark is set in the small German town of Winden in three time periods: 2019, 1986, and 1953. It comprises four families as their children begin to disappear in 2019. It begins as a conventional mystery, with intergenerational family drama and the years of sour blood that can accumulate in small communities over time taking center stage. The element of time travel is ultimately incorporated which further complicates things.

The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner sound a lot like a dystopian novel in which a group of youths fight each other in the hopes of rising to a rare life of affluence. Fortunately, “3%” – Netflix’s first original Brazilian series and one of the best Sci-fi series on Netflix – has enough interesting character arcs and continuously shifting alliances to firmly standalone within the genre.
