Apple today unveiled AirPods Max, imaginative wireless headphones that add the magic of AirPods with high-fidelity sound to an over-ear design. Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, and Spatial Audio AirPods Max combine a custom acoustic architecture, H1 chips, and advanced software to power computational audio for a groundbreaking listening experience. AirPods Max comes in five beautiful colors, including space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink, and are available to order from today, with availability starting on Tuesday, December 15.

Custom acoustic architecture
Every part of AirPods Max is carefully designed to provide outstanding acoustic output for each customer, from the canopy to the ear cushions. The breathable knit mesh canopy is made to spread weight and reduce on-head pressure, covering the headband. For a wide range of head shapes and sizes, the stainless steel headband frame offers power, versatility, and comfort. To retain the perfect fit, telescoping headband arms smoothly expand and remain in place.
Through an innovative mechanism that balances and distributes ear cup pressure, each ear cup attaches to the headband and enables it to pivot and rotate independently to match the specific contours of the head of a consumer. To create an efficient seal, each ear cushion uses acoustically designed memory foam .
Efficiency and battery
With up to 20 hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, or movie playback with Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio allowed, AirPods Max offers great battery life.
AirPods Max comes with a soft, slim Smart Case that places AirPods Max in an ultra-low power state that, while not in use, helps conserve battery charge.
Automatic switching enables users to transfer sound from the iPhone, iPad, and Mac seamlessly. Users can quickly take a call to the iPhone while playing music on Mac and AirPods Max will turn over automatically.
Audio Sharing makes it possible for two sets of AirPods on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV 4K to conveniently share an audio stream. Simply carry AirPods Max close to the computer and connect with a single tap.
The ability to play music, make phone calls, adjust the volume, get directions and more is included in the Siri capabilities. Incoming messages can also be read by Siri as they arrive with Siri Notify Messages.

Adaptive EQ: Adaptive EQ is used by AirPods Max to change the sound to the fit and seal of the ear cushions by measuring a user’s sound signal and changing the low and mid-frequencies in real time, delivering rich audio that captures every detail.
Active Noise Cancellation: Via Active Noise Cancellation, AirPods Max provides immersive sound so that users can concentrate on what they are listening to. To detect ambient noise, each ear cup features three outward-facing microphones, while one microphone within the ear cup tracks the sound hitting the ear of the listener. Noise cancellation adapts continuously to the headphone fit and movement in real time using computational audio.
Transparency mode: Users can turn to Transparency mode with AirPod Max to listen to music simultaneously while listening to the world around them, ensuring that anything, including the user’s own voice, sounds normal while the audio plays perfectly.
Using the noise reduction button, switching between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode can be achieved with a single click.
Spatial Audio: AirPod Max uses spatial audio with dynamic head tracking to position sounds in a room virtually anywhere, offering an immersive, theatrical experience for 5.1, 7.1, and Dolby Atmos captured material. Spatial audio monitors the motion of a user’s head as well as the device, compares the motion data using the gyroscope and accelerometer in AirPod Max and iPhone or iPad, then remakes the sound field so that it remains anchored to the device, even as the user’s head moves.
