3440×1440 Ultrawide Benchmarks: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080

Nvidia’s Ampere-powered GeForce RTX 3080, which we have covered in our extensive Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition review, is cheating up games and breakfast frames. To make the most of this, you need a pixel-packed display, such as an ultra-screen 3440×1440.

3440x1440 Ultrawide Benchmarks: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080

Nvidia: Our first tests of GeForce RTX 3080 have shown that the muscles are really flexing at 4 K resolution, when the workload of the graphs is so noisy that the Processor is very removed from the equation. At 4 K, the RTX 3080 was up to 80 percent quicker in some games than the RTX 2080. Taking 1440p, but not as much as 4 K, the RTX 3080 is still dominant, since the CPU is struggling to feed frames quickly enough to an ultra-fast graphic card in the lower resolution. An ultra-wide 3440×1440 display separates the gap between the two more common resolutions.

Since last winter, I have been displaying Nixeus in my office and while I have not had time to analyze it, it is an excellent value. The ultra-wide curved 3440×1440 reached a 144Hz blister and paved the way for a fascinating $550 on Amazon, compared to ultra-wide higher-end displays that can cost 800 $or more. Of course, there are several other nice things found in the pricier options: the EDG34S comes with a plastic budget container without adjustment features, and several software features do not exist, but if you are looking for quick gaming on the oh so immersive ultra-wide screen, the EDG34S of Nixeus shouts.

Nvidia: This monitor is officially supported only with formal support for AMD FreeSync Premium by Nixeus. But do not let that stop you. Although there is no official G-Sync Compatible certification for the EDG34S, G-Sync can be triggered manually on the control panel of Nvidia to enable GeForce GPU adaptive sync support. It works like a charm, I have verified. However, this makes Nixeus EDG34S a great partner for a monstrous GeForce RTX 3080, when you intend to update your display. If you are searching for new items, you can use the on-screen displays to enable adaptive sync.

But take it not with my word. Do not take my word. Carry ultra-wide benchmarks with the GeForce RTX 3080 3440×1440.

Ultra-wide benchmarks GeForce RTX 3080 3440×1440

Unless otherwise stated, each game is checked on its In-game benchmark with VSync, frame rate limits, real-time ray tracking or DLSS effects, FreeSync / G-Sync and other vendor-specificities such as FidelityFX. We have enabled temporal anti-aliasing (TAA) when it is accessible to drive these cards to their limits.

The elusive GeForce GTX 1080 Ti was not included, as our previous benchmarks showed that most games were on an equal footing with RTX 2080. The hair is a slower one, as you can see in our RTX 3080 analysis, with properly optimized DX12 or Vulkan game. Similarly, AMD Radeon’s graphics cards are also not in line with the RTX 2080, so in the charts below you cannot find them.

Nvidia: Get more information about our methodology and testing framework from our complete Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Founders study. Before providing any wrap-up suggestions, we will show the raw graphs and game details at the top. Due to winning, ultra large help, which I will explain at the end I had to delete 2 games from the suite.

Zero Dawn Horizon

Yep, exclusive Sony’s now hit the PC. Horizon Zero Dawn struck Steam with some problems in efficiency. Thanks to the hard work of the developers, the most outrageous have been obvious by and wide, and the game ran over the sales charts for weeks following its launch. The PCIe 4.0, which will make this an interesting addition in the future when we turn over to a pcIe 4.0 system, also seems to respond somewhat.

Celebrity Maya Moore Revealed her Marriage to Jonathan Irons

Horizon Zero Dawn is running Decima, the same engine as Death Stranding, on the Guerrilla Games engine. If set to Ultra, Ambient Occlusion can still provide iffy results so we can test with that medium environment. Any other choice of the visuals is maximized.

Tactics of gears

Gears Tactics brings the XCOM-like genre to its most aggressive, fast beat. This 4-powered Unreal Engine game was designed for DirectX 12 from the field. We love to work in our benchmarking suite for a tactics-style game. Better still, the game has a range of PC snobs graphics choices. More games should be dedicated to illustrating what these visual buttons mean.

You cannot use Gears Tactics presets because they smartly scale to fit best on your installed hardware, which means that “Ultra” will load different settings than “Ultra” for a weaker card on a single graphics card. We set all options manually for optimal configuration and deactivate the minimum and maximum frame rate.

Nvidia: Fun Fact: The GeForce RTX 3080 FE is the only graphics card that does not generate a warning “Your GPU can not handle this” when Glossy Reflections are allowed. The alert for Planar Reflections was absent only in the3080 and RTX 2080.

Exodus of Metro

One of the best games of 2019, Metro Exodus is also one of the best-looking games in the world. The new iteration of the 4A Engine offers extremely luxurious, ultra-detailed visuals, with one of the most spectacular real-time ray tracing implementations released yet. We monitor for our basic benchmarks in DirectX 12 mode with ray tracing, Hairworks, and DLSS disabled.

Stunning Brigade

Strange Brigade is a collaborative third-party shooter with a squad of explorers blowing through armies of mythological enemies. It is a technical showcase, designed around the next-gen Vulkan and DirectX 12 technologies and infused with features such as HDR support and the ability to turn asynchronous compute on and off. It uses the customized Azure engine of Revolt. We evaluate with the Vulkan renderer, which is faster than DX12.

Complete War: Troy

The new game in the iconic Total War story, Troy was launched for the first 24 hours at the Epic Games Store, selling over 7.5 million copies before it went on sale. Total War: Troy is developed with a modified version of the Total War: Warhammer 2 engine, and this DX11 title looks stunning for a turn-based strategy game.

Shadow of the Raider Tomb

Shadow of the Tomb Raider ends the reboot trilogy, and it is totally beautiful. Square Enix optimized this game for DX12, and recommends DX11 only if you are using older hardware or Windows 7, so we are checking it with DX12. Tomb Raider’s Shadow uses an upgraded version of the Foundation engine that also powered Tomb Raider ‘s Rise and includes optional real-time ray tracing and DLSS functionality.

This DX11 game that is not really a visual barn-burner like Red Dead Redemption 2, but still tops the Steam charts day in and day out, so we think it is more worth trying. RDR2 will melt the graphics card, of course, but GTA V remains so popular years after launch that upgraded versions of it will be available on next-generation consoles. This is staying power.

Nvidia: We are testing Grand Theft Auto V with all options turned to Very High, all Advanced Graphics options except extended shadows allowed, and FXAA. GTA V is running on the RAGE engine and has received major updates since its initial launch.

Complete Analysis:

After comparing the GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Version to 3440×1440 in eight games, it ended up being about 50 to 70 percent faster than its immediate ancestor, the GeForce RTX 2080. Nvidia’s new flagship also beats the previous $1,200 RTX 2080 Ti flagship by approximately 15 to 30 percent at ultra-wide resolution, despite costing $500 less. The only exception is GTA V, but that is because the GeForce RTX 3080 is so powerful that it stretches the engine ‘s limits even at this high resolution. If you are already using GTX 1080, that is a titanic upgrade.
